Schedule of Events

THUNDER BAY – The second annual Thunder Bay Marathon - Miles with the Giant race weekend is here.  Over 759 participants are registered to date including 75 full marathoners, 469 half-marathoners and 215 10K runners and walkers

Special guests in the event include:
-    Philip Kipchumba, Kenya, winner of the 2010 Thunder Bay Marathon;
-    Gilbert Kiptoo, Kenya, male winner of the 2011 Ten Mile Road Race;
-    Josiane Abougono, North York, ON female winner of the 2011 Ten Mile Road Race; and,
-    Shingie Badza, Zimbabwe

Media are welcome to attend any of the events as outlined below.

Friday, September 16
Dick Beardsley presentation to students at Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School
11:00 am – 12:00 noon
Dick will be available for media interviews following the presentation

Intercity Shopping Centre Promotions Court (near Moxie’s entrance)
4pm – 9pm


Saturday, September 17

Pasta Dinner with Guest Speaker Dick Beardsley
Da Vinci Centre
6pm (Tickets available for purchase at kit pick-up. $13/person: $8 children age 3-10)

RACE DAY: SEPTEMBER 18

Start / Finish Line - Red River Road & St. Paul Street
7:55am        Wheelchair Marathon start
8:00am        Full & Half Marathon start
8:10am        10K Run & Walk start

Race Day Entertainment & Ceremonies
The ST. PAUL STREET CELEBRATION AREA is the place to be with concessions and fantastic local entertainment. We are pleased to announce our entertainers for Sunday morning.
-    The Pipes and Drums of Thunder Bay will send our runners off to a fantastic start
-    Churchill Cheerleaders will be on route to cheer our runners along
-    Aboriginal Drummers from Dennis Franklin Cromarty School will provide the heartbeat of Mother Earth

On the St. Paul St. stage:
10:00am
Sara's Trio featuring Sara Kanutski performing original and mainstream pop music

10:30 & 11:30am
Kam Valley Fiddlers performing traditional and contemporary Canadian fiddle music

12:00noon    RBC Award Ceremonies and Age Group Award Presentations
1st 2nd 3rd Place and Top Northwestern Ontario Finisher
($12,000 Total in cash awards to be presented)
